Se i Genesis chiedessero a tutti noi del Genesis Forum Italia di comporre la lista per un cd, la compilation identificativa, quella definitiva, assoluta, la GOLD compilation:
quali 10 brani dovrebbero esserci assolutamente.

Pur essendo SELLING ENGLAND e THE LAMB di importanza capitale(per non parlare di TRICK e WIND), per me i GENESIS, i "miei GENESIS" non possono assolutamente prescindere da questi 10 brani.
(portando il numero a 12 avrei il complemento ideale con DANCING WITH THE MOONLIT KNIGHT e THE CINEMA SHOW)

non sono tutti i miei preferiti, non sono necessariamente i 10 migliori, sono quelli che farei sentire a chi dovesse cominciare ad esplorare il territorio Genesis...

Una domanda a Pino: ma non dovevi stilare la lista definitiva della compilation?

cinicamente parlando -e Pino mi scuserà- rispondo che una "compilation" non ha più senso; per due motivi:

1) stilare una compilation può essere semplice per un gruppo od artista qualsiasi che non risponda al nome di BEATLES e GENESIS - guarda caso due tra i miei stra-favoriti "all-times"

2) una compilation poteva avere senso riferita ad un supporto da riprodurre; con i mezzi messi a disposizione dalla tecnologia attuale, in un capiente riproduttore mp3 da 4 giga o più ci stà comodamente TUTTA la produzione dei GENESIS, almeno quella CHE CONTA, per di più "rippata" a qualità più che soddisfacente.

Per quanto mi riguarda, e questo si ricollega al punto 1, in uno dei miei lettori mp3 battezzato a PROG ho messo dentro LA CREMA del prog 69-81; dei GENESIS ho messo TUTTO QUANTO da "Looking for Someone" fino a "Another Record" compresa TWILIGHT ALEHOUSE, meno le mie care odiatissime "MORE", "FOLLOW" e "DUNNIT?" [:D] che senò non sarei stato coerente con me stesso [:D] ...non ho certo fatto la stessa cosa per EL&P... o per BARCLAY JAMES HARVEST...

di un gruppo come GENESIS non si può prescindere almeno dall'80% della loro intera produzione.

leggendo qui i vari punti di vista, d'accordo tutto bene, ma... 10 brani? condensare a 10 brani pur rappresentativi un autentico universo? impossibile.

Leggo delle più ovvie e gettonate, THE MUSICAL BOX, GIANT HOGWEED, SALMACIS, WATCHER, SUPPER'S, DANCING, FIRTH, CINEMA, etc etc etc

ma poi quando ti capita di sentire una di queste e pensi "accidenti non c'è SEVEN STONES", [:-I] "mannaggia non ho CAN UTILITY", [:-|] "porca l'oca, e AFTER THE ORDEAL?", [:-I] "quanto mi piacerebbe adesso ascoltare TIME TABLE", [:(] "oihbò... e DUSK??!!", [:-|] "però che bella che era HAROLD THE BARRELL"... etc etc etc

no, no, credetemi, nel caso dei GENESIS la compilation è pura "MISSION IMPOSSIBLE" [:D]

arrendetevi all'evidenza di portarvi dietro alcuni CD - per me tutti almeno da TRESPASS a WIND, oppure di chiedere aiuto alla tecnologia come detto prima...

sono un "rompiscatole", lo so [:D]
