Calling non sarà dei Genesis, ma suona molto più Genesis (pur nella sua sufficienza) di IT: la sola Unchertain wheater contiene più genesisianità di tutto IT messo assieme[:D]

Ma i gusti sono gusti, certo è la prima volta che in un forum dei Genesis vedo simili giudizi[:D]

Beh, al momento il mio giudizio è limitato a soli alcuni album, e d'altra parte non è che sia particolarmente attratta dall'ultima produzione dei Genesis. Non ne faccio solo una questione di PG sì o PG no in quanto non sottovaluto affatto il valore di Steve.
Ma visto che al momento della produzione post PG conosco solo alcuni brani, mi limiterò agli album usciti fino al '75.

Facciamo una prima veloce analisi dei voti dei forumisti:

- FGTR raggiunge una strascicata sufficienza
- Trespass sfiora il 9
- Nursery supera il 9
- Foxtrot supera il 9,5 e si conferma uno dei più amati
- Selling supera di poco Foxtrot ed è il più apprezzato dell'era con peter e non solo
- The lamb è lievemente meno apprezzato di Foxtrot
- Trick è sui livelli di the Lamb ed è il più amato con Collins alla voce
- Wind è considerato un pochino inferiore a Trick, pur con ottimi voti
- ATTWT è di poco sopra il 7 e i voti sono molto altalenanti
- Duke è vicino all' 8 ed è il più apprezzato del periodo a tre
- Abacab è sopra il 6,5 e divide molto i forumisti (si va dal 5 all'8)
- Genesis è sopra la sufficienza e anch'esso riceve voti molto differenziati
- IT come prevedibile è il meno amato e si attesta sul 5,5 (anche se non manca qualche voto positivo)
- WCD è sopra il 6,5, un pò più apprezzato di Genesis
- CAS sorprendentemente è vicino al 6,5, sui livelli di Genesis

Fa tristezza soprattutto il pessimo risultato generale di From Genesis To Revelation, che non merita, a mio avviso, tutte queste insufficienze.
Nei fatti, numeri alla mano, sembra l'album meno amato dei Genesis [V]

Ma lo è forzosamente, visto che tutti i restanti cinque album in studio dei Genesis sono capolavori assoluti della musica di ogni tempo. [:-I]

È un bel disco, molto minore rispetto ai precedenti, ma buono. Sicuramente superiore al successivo, che quasi detesto. Però gli manca terribilmente un chitarrista.

Per gli album degli '80 considera che ho dato un voto in più alla carriera...

decisero di raccogliere quanto gli fu negato nel decennio precedente, quando già erano riusciti a dimostrare "chi erano".

Bravo thenemesis per il 7,5 a Calling All Stations, ottimo disco.

From Genesis to revelation 6 (di incoraggiamento; non sarà certo ricordato come un album d'esordio strepitoso, al contrario di altri... ma dovendo fare il cambio per quello che averrà in futuro, mi tengo e mi digerisco anche questo)

Trespass 8 (il "primo vero album" della band chiamata GENESIS; considerato che erano ragazzi di 20anni quando fu pubblicato -19anni Ant Phillips!!!- il risultato ha quasi del prodigioso)

Nursery Cryme 10 (voto non oggettivo, lo riconosco, specie in confronto agli altri due album futuri della band, ma al cuore non si comanda, si sa... quando lo conobbi, fu amore al primo ascolto -tutto quanto, dal Carillion alla Fontana senza escludere nessun altra- e tuttora rimane.)

Foxtrot 10 (titolo da inserire nella lista degli albums prog -e non solo!- più rappresentativi di sempre)

Genesis Live 8 (mi rimarrà sempre il cruccio che con l'aggiunta di "Supper's Ready" + altre tre -tra cui la sempre verde "TWILIGHT ALEHOUSE" che facevano sempre dal vivo in ogni occasione- dall'altro lato a formare così un doppio album, questo titolo sarebbe potuto diventare "il live del prog" per antonomasia...)

Selling England by the pound 10 (vedi il commento di FOXTROT)

The Lamb lies down on Broadway 9 (deciso e innovativo; di certo l'opera più complessa mai creata dalla band, ed un disco che risplende nel panorama rock di sempre)

A Trick of the tail 9 (con questo Lp dimostrarono che i Genesis non erano solo "quelli di Gabriel" come una presuntuosissima stampa specializzata del tempo aveva iniziato ad etichettare la band...)

Wind & Wuthering 8 (vedi sopra)

Seconds Out 8

And then there were.. 5 (per me, il più netto salto qualitativo -purtroppo verso il basso- di ogni altro album della band prima di esso... segna la fine del rock per la band, alla ricerca di un nuovo linguaggio espressivo non ancora ben chiaro nella mente dei propri autori...)

Duke 7 (mi piace e mi piacerà sempre di più del suo predecessore; metamorfosi rock ---> pop completata per la band, anche se questo disco contiene ancora l'ultimo grande omaggio e affresco di A.Banks verso la sua antica arte)

Abacab 5 (fu l'ultimo Lp della band che acquistai; per quello che avevano scelto di intraprendere, i Genesis non rientravano più nei miei interessi musicali)

Genesis 4 (ascoltato quel poco che basta, giusto per poter esprimere un giudizio personale)

Invisible Touch 3 (vedi sopra, con un aggravante anche maggiore...)

We can't dance 5 (non riesco e non riuscirò mai a verderne quella magnificenza che molti intravedono in esso; sarà forse perchè per me i "veri Genesis" furono e rimangono quelli di due decenni prima...)

per beneficio di inventario, ti dirò che posseggo "Calling all station" da una decina d'anni o più ma non mi sono mai preso la briga di ascoltarlo (questo si che è criticabile, lo ammetto, ma ormai il tempo è quello che è... cosa lo hai preso a fare allora -uno potrebbe chiedermi-!?!?!? per semplice attaccamento verso una delle mie bands preferite di sempre, tutto qui); il mio "non pervenuto" stà quindi ad indicare la mia impossibilità ad emettere giudizio su di esso, non certo a condannarlo (nemmeno a priori, dando retta alle voci che si leggono in giro)...

Beh, quando è uscito io l'ho comprato per le tue stesse ragioni, ma ho avuto il "coraggio" di ascoltarlo tutto... una volta, poi una seconda... e poi ho consumato il CD... E' un album ricco di idee interessanti, qualche volta sviluppate molto bene, altre volte meno. Ma contestualizzandolo nell'epoca (secondi anni '90) non si può certo dire che sia cattiva musica, anzi. Certo, se lo confrontiamo con la produzione (non solo Genesis) degli anni 70-76, fatica a emergere, anche se, in certi momenti, sembra di essere tornati a quegli anni ruggenti.
In definitiva, suggerisco di ascoltarlo, perchè secondo me merita davvero.
Brani che consiglio: Shipwrecked (Banks/Rutherford) / Alien Afternoon (Banks/Rutherford) / One Man's Fool (Banks/Rutherford) e la title.
