Originally, the “reunion” was just the current members of Genesis playing a set with Peter Gabriel in order to raise money. Hence the name “six” of the best: the five members of the Genesis touring
band (Tony, Mike, and Phil plus Daryl and Chester) and Peter Gabriel. How did Steve get involved with the reunion? Manir Donaghue points to a 1998 interview in a UK magazine called "Classic
Rock" in which Steve says: "I was in Brazil, working on an album [Till We Have Faces] and my father phoned me and said ‘look, the guys are doing this show at Milton Keynes and it'll look bad if you're not involved’. So I flew back, not really knowing whether they'd let me play or not. I got back, phoned Pete and said I'd like to be involved and he told me that they were rehearsing the day before at Hammersmith Odeon where Genesis were actually doing their own show." … "They were doing one set at Hammersmith with all their new stuff and another set with Pete. It was a bit of a memory test for everybody. But anyway, they said they'd got most of it worked out and did I want to do a couple of encores with them? So I did." The songs Steve played on were I Know What I Like, and the Knife.

D: Sei stato invitato alla reunion dei Genesis la prossima estate?

SH : Non ne so nulla!

D: Considerando la tua crescita come cantante in brani quali: in Memoriam, Jane Austen’s Door, l’album Guitar Noir e Blues With A Feeling, potresti proporti ai Genesis come cantante e chitarrista.

SH: Grazie per il complimento. Il progetto Genesis per quanto mi riguarda è terminato. Potranno decidere di riunirsi ma sono certo che in tal caso cercheranno qualcuno più giovane di me, e soprattutto che sappia anche ballare.

D: Con qual membro dei Genesis hai maggiore affinità musicale, ed è eventualmente prevista una tua collaborazione?

SH: Peter Gabriel, ma non abbiamo nessuna collaborazione in corso, entrambi abbiamo steso un velo sul nostro passato.

D: Quale è il tuo disco preferito con i Genesis?

SH: Selling England.

Non so quanti gruppi possano permettersi di snobbare uno come Hackett...è un grande compositore e Voyage of the acolyte non mi sembra molto inferiore ai capolavori dei Genesis 1970-1974.
Forse ha avuto meno degli altri la capacità di essere autoironico, di rinnovarsi, ma la chiusura degli altri 4 nei suoi confronti è un pò imbarazzante [:0]

voyage di steve e wise di ant phillips sono gli unici due album solistici di membri dei genesis che avrebbero meritato di apparire nella discografia ufficiale del gruppo.

e se penso che voyage è principalmete materiale di scarto da wind and wuthering mi viene da piangere perchè senza decisioni idiote sarabbe stato il miglior album di tutti i tempi
