Come ho scritto tante volte, non ha senso fare una top-ten unica, sarebbe meglio scriverne una per il periodo prog e una per la fase pop.
Comunque Behind the lines, Dukes travels, Culdesac, Abacab, Dodo, Mama, Home by the sea, Domino, Do the neurotic, Dreaming while you sleep e Fading lights...sono grandi canzoni [^]

Ah, scusa, Benedictus, avevo capito che la top ten era riferita solo a quel periodo.

Beh, in assoluto, difficilissimo che possa entrarci qualcuna di queste. Concordo con Smiro: forse tra le prime 30 qualcuna potrebbe piazzarsi.

Nella top ten non entrerebbero brani capolavoro della prima fase, brani che se scritti da qualsiasi altro gruppo giustificherebbero una discografia, figuriamoci questi.

Forse se chiudo gli occhi, mi tappo le orecchie, chiudo la bocca, mi turo il naso, Fading Lights zitta zitta si inserisce nella top ten.
Poi però quando me ne accorgo la sbatto fuori[:D]

nessuno rientra nella mia personale classifica degli migliori 10 brani dei genesis.

il 60% dei brani elencati faccio fatica pure ad associarli al nome genesis, figuriamoci metterli in qualche classifica

la fase prog finisce con W&W. I 2 album seguenti sono dischi di transizione fra il prog e il pop, ma è già il secondo a prevalere. Senza dubbio Duke è comunque un ottimo disco.

Ciao! E' possibile fare qualche "compressione"??[:-D]
Anche io pensavo a un topic del genere o, se preferite, quello di creare un unico doppio album da studio che racchiudesse il meglio degli anni 80 - 91.
Però metterei una top ten a partire dal 1980, perchè una top ten assoluta mischierebbe stili troppo diversi!

E Duke ce lo metterei per intero...

...curioso, questo thread è alquanto datato (2009) ma non vi ho mai risposto...

per rispondere alla domanda iniziale di chi aveva creato il thread "Ci sono canzoni del periodo 80-91 che mettereste nella vostra personale top ten dei genesis ?"

la mia risposta è : NESSUNA

perchè i Genesis formato "mark 5" secondo me hanno creato e realizzato talmente tanto materiale di alto livello dal periodo che va dal 1970 al 1974 nell'arco di 5 storici albums, che dovendone scegliere "solo 10" non solo non c'è posto per i genesis formato "mark 3" ma neppure per quelli formato "mark 4" ed anzi dovrei scartarne parecchie della formazione "mark 5" che avrebbero ancora la precedenza sul periodo successivo della band...

In un altro forum recentemente ognuno dei partecipanti ha stilato la propria classifica dei brani della band; la riporto anche qui,
ricordando il concetto riportato più su, cioè che per quanto mi riguarda NESSUNA canzone del g3 è meritoria di entrare neppure nella classifica del G4 e di quest'ultimo periodo nessuna canzone è meritoria di entrare nel periodo G5

3) Genesis the poor age "g3"

01) Duke's travels (l'ultimo vero grande "affresco" -metaforando concetto pittorico- di un tastierista dotato di grande gusto ed inventiva musicale)
02) Me and Sarah Jane (davvero molto bella quanto complessa nella sua orchestrazione e ben articolata nei suoi vari movimenti, un brano di grande stile)
03) The lady lies (la cui leziosissima intro di Banks nelle strofe è compensata dalla sensazionale coda finale del tastierista, una delle cose migliori di quell'album)
04) Duchess (non è un mistero che Banks la consideri una delle sue cose più pregevoli e riuscite; si può concederglielo con riserva; splendida la sua lunga intro)
05) Burning rope
06) Abacab
07) Naminanu (a dir poco sorprendente, brano atipico per loro, ma molto godibile per chi ama genere fusion e jazz)
08) Driving the last spike
09) Fading light
10) Many too many

ultima annotazione: alcuni brani del "g3 revisited" (quello con Ray Wilson) meritano menzione speciale e potrebbero entrare a pieno titolo in questa mia personalissima classifica,
in particolare "Alien Afternoon" "NOT ABOUT US", "There's must be some other way", "ONE MAN's Fool".

Anche io credo che i pezzi della G3 non possano entrare nella top 10 all time anche se di pezzi pregevoli ce ne sono eccome. contrariamente a quanto affermento da aor metto moooolti pezzi della G4 nella top 10.

ps. apprezzo l'inserimento di chambers nella top 10 perchè pur non essendo un brano dei più famosi merita tantissimo. The lamb lo sto riascoltando molto ultimamente ed probabilmente il mio album preferito dei G5 anche se non ha brani particolarmente di spicco (a mi avviso) come the musical o supper.

"Heathaze" e "Cul-De-Sac (Banks" (entrambe di Banks, che hai citato nella tua top 10 periodo "g3") sono proprio due gemme di brani (tra i miei preferiti di "DUKE"),
effettivamente potrebbero rientrare anche nella mia lista, questo per far capire che di scelte ce ne sono davvero molte, e dovendone citare "solo 10" diventa quasi una costrizione... la cosa è relativa anche al periodo "aureo": nella mia lista ho penalizzato, lasciandoli fuori, brani quali THE KNIFE, STAGNATION, THE RETOURN OF THE GIANT HOGWEED, THE FOUTAIN OF SALMACIS, SEVEN STONES, GET THEM OUT BY FRIDAY, tutti brani che, per quanto mi riguarda, hanno un valore aggiunto decisamente superiore a qualsiasi composizione post 1975 della band.
